Hua Hua Nails Brand & Packaging Design
Designing a playful beauty brand from product concept to retail experience
Hua Hua Nails is a handmade press-on nail brand centered around expressive, collectible nail art. I developed the brand’s packaging system, original nail designs, and promotional imagery, translating a playful illustrative identity across both physical products and retail touchpoints.

Building a reusable packaging system
Because Hua Hua produces many different nail collections, the packaging needed to accommodate dramatically different colors and artwork without requiring a completely new structure for every release.
I created a reusable flower-shaped display card that frames the nails while leaving enough visual space for the product itself to remain the focus. A neutral center panel provides contrast behind the nails, while the surrounding color can change between collections.
Designing for Scalability
One system, many products
Rather than designing each package independently, I created a flexible system that could adapt to different nail collections while maintaining a recognizable Hua Hua identity.
Design informed by selling the product
Because I was designing for a product I was actively selling, I was able to observe how customers interacted with the packaging in real retail environments. The experience pushed me to think beyond aesthetics and consider visibility, product comparison, sizing, merchandising, and how quickly someone could understand the brand while browsing.
Customer feedback revealed that buyers wanted everything needed to apply their nails included with their purchase. In response, I redesigned the packaging experience to accommodate glue and preparation materials, turning feedback from customers into a tangible product improvement.
From illustration to wearable product
My illustration background became an important part of the product-development process. I designed nail sets digitally first, using each ten-nail collection as a miniature composition rather than treating every nail as an isolated design.
Impact
2,000+ nail sets sold since September 2025
The visual system has supported Hua Hua Nails as it grew from an illustration-driven product idea into an established retail brand. Since September 2025, the business has sold more than 2,000 nail sets across its collections.
Designing a system, not just an object
Hua Hua Nails taught me how differently design behaves once it enters the real world. A package could be visually successful on my screen but still need to communicate clearly from across a booth, accommodate physical products, survive production constraints, and make sense to someone encountering the brand for the first time.
Most importantly, running the business gave me a direct feedback loop between design and the people using it. Customer questions, purchasing behavior, and product feedback became opportunities to iterate on the experience. That process changed the way I approach design: I now think less about creating individual assets and more about building flexible systems that can respond to real users.
